Basic Beauty Tips for Christian Young Women

Read my E-Book, Radiant Modesty, to learn how to embrace God's ideal for the clothing we wear!

Basic beauty tips for young women. Beauty advice for Christian women and young ladies.

Good Morning Lovely Friends,

I have always wanted to write blog posts about beauty, simply because I am such a girly girl at heart! I never thought beauty posts fit into my particular blogging niche, and yet… it totally does! A radiant young woman cultivates inner beauty first… but that doesn’t mean she neglects her outward appearance.

As a young woman interested in beauty and learning how to properly adorn myself… I’ve often had to rely on worldly and carnal sources to learn how to care for my hair or learn new beauty tips and tricks. It would have been so nice to have a godly and biblical perspective when it comes to beauty.

I often see two extremes – girls who spend way too much time on the outward appearance and those who barely spend anytime on how they look. I think both extremes are a poor testimony and a poor representation of Christ.

So that’s why I am choosing to write about beauty today.

โ†’ After you read this post, please leave a comment with your thoughts on outer beauty, as well as your interest in seeing posts on beauty every now and then.

The following tips are just the basics for every young woman. You may have heard some of them before, others are just basic things I have learned over the course of my teen years.

Basic Beauty Tips for Young Women

Before we get started, let me say one more thing… as a Christian young woman I think beauty is very important. Even in the Bible we read of beautiful women such as Eve, Sarah, Rebekah, and Abigail. Beautiful character will set you apart more than anything else, however, it’s still very important to care for the outside. As a Christian young woman representing Christ, we need to do our best to look our best. Not for vanity or to draw undue attention to ourselves, but to take care of what God has given us and look our best for HIS honor and glory.

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel…” 1 Timothy 2:9

Okay, now onto the tips!

Take Care of Your Skin

When I think of outward radiance… I think of someone with radiant skin. This is by far the most difficult part of beauty (for me) because I have had skin issues since my early teen years. However, our skin is the largest organ on our body, and it’s also the first thing people see when they look at our face! Therefore, it’s important that we learn how to take care of our skin!

First, I will share some basic tips, then I will share what works best for me personally!

Basic Skin Care Tips:

  • Drink LOTS of Water. You knew this was coming first right? This is probably the #1 most important thing, yet the #1 thing I neglect the most ๐Ÿ™ ย Our bodies need water to function properly and to moisturize our skin. When we drink lots of water everything just works better, we have more energy, our skin is replenished, etc. This is probably the easiest and cheapest beauty tip out there, but it’s a good one! ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Get Your Sleep. Our skin rejuvenates itself when we sleep. So, if you aren’t getting enough zzz’s then you’re not giving your skin enough time to do it’s thing. I know it’s hard, but aim for at least 8 hours of shut eye each night. Your skin will thank you!
  • Be careful what you put ON your skin. If you have any kind of skin issues such as acne, or extreme dryness, you may want to double check what you are using on your skin. For me personally, certain skin care products or foundations give me terrible breakouts. When it comes to your skin, consider organic or homemade skin care products and face makeup. Less is more when it comes to the products you put on your body!

There is a lot more I could add to that list, but those are just three very basic and easy starters. And now, here’s what has worked wonders for me…

  • Norwex Anti-Bacterial Cloths. Last Spring I started washing my face with water only while using these cloths at night to remove my makeup. It’s SO simple and my skin always looks it’s best when I am using a fresh one of these cloths. They are soft as well as gently exfoliating = it’s a win-win ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • The right kind of face makeup. Some foundations make me break out… so I have had to be careful what kind I use. Even some organic brands clog my pores and give me cystic acne. This is the brand I currently use and love: Physicians Formula Organic Wear
  • Moisture, moisture, moisture. I load up my face with lots of oil before going to bed. It helps my skin so much. My all time favorite oil is argan (this is my favorite brand for pure argan oil). Argan oil is a little pricier than some oils, but so worth it. A cheaper substitute that works great is olive oil. Currently I am using an argan oil blend I received for Christmas. It contains argan + lavender oil and works great! It’s also very “clean” and free from chemicals…. Yaaay! I couldn’t find the exact one on Amazon but here is a similar scent from the same company: EO Essentials Botanical Body Oil

That’s about all (for now) about skin care – now onto the next thing!

Get Your Exercise

If you read my goals for March, you, saw that I am trying to get back into a healthy/fit mindset. I have been more intentional about my workouts this month and boy, do I ever feel so much better! Working out and being fit isn’t just about looking good -it’s about getting the exercise your body needs and feeling better as a result. Working out always gives my skin an added glow and gives me a boost of confidence. Some workouts are hard, so when I’m finished I feel like I have accomplished something. It’s motivating.

The more you exercise and workout, the more motivated you will be to take care of yourself in other ways. Spending time getting fit is often just the motivation I need to clean up my diet and get my sleep.

There are so many ways to exercise right from home. Whether it’s taking a walk or run outside to following an out home workout online, start with something small and go from there. You will feel so much better as a result.

Encouraging you to get your exercise may not seem like a beauty tip – but it IS. When you feel your best, you LOOK your best. Exercise will give you a glow, help you lose excess weight, and help give you confidence which is even better than external beauty!

Wear A Little Makeup (in Moderation)

When it comes to makeup, the goal is enhancement. Our goal as young women, should be to draw attention to our face, not our bodies. If you do wear makeup, don’t go overboard. Use enough to enhance your face and your best features and/or conceal any skin issues or blemishes.

Tip:ย Be careful of certain makeup trends. Dark smoky eyes, bright red lips, harsh black eyeliner, and other bold makeup trends are very worldly looks. Before you go out wearing certain makeup trends, make sure what’s on your face is properly representing Christ.

My “face makeup” is either organic or homemade, but the rest is still drugstore brands. Here are some of my favorites if you’re interested in checking them out

I typically wear a liquid liner as well. I sometimes wear eye shadow, and I almost never wear blush (I’m pink enough without it normally!).

Again, the goal with makeup is to enhance what God has already given you… and to conceal any major blemishes or redness, etc. I realize makeup is kind of a controversial subject, but I believe it’s purely a personal matter. Feel free to leave your thoughts about makeup in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

Style Your Hair

My fiance’ is constantly reminding me that my hair is my “glory” (1 Corinthians 11:15)… and that’s true for every girl! Hair is a blessing (even if it doesn’t seem like it some days!). The Bible says that long hair is a woman’s glory because it is given to her for a covering.

It’s amazing how often hair is mentioned in the Bible. My favorite is the verse that says God knows the number of hairs on my head. That amazes me because I find my hair everywhere, yet God cares enough about me to know how much I have ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways… all this to say. As a young woman, take care of your hair, which is your glory.

Besides taking care of your beautiful head of hair, have fun styling it every now and then! A couple years ago I invested in a curling wand that had three different attachments – one of my best purchases ever! I won’t go into great detail describing how I style my hair… but here is what I use and how I learned to use a curling wand.

How I Style My Own Hair

Also, my curling wand set came with a flat iron but I prefer curling my hair over straightening it. I bought my set on Amazon two years ago for about $70… right now the price is way higher. If you are looking to buy a curling wand I would shop around for a better price! I typically style my hair 2-3 times a week, but I know the heat does make my hair a little dry so I try not to overdo it.

ย โ†’If you’re a girl, take care of your hair and have fun learning to style it. I don’t do much to my hair besides curling it, but experiment and find out what works best for you and your hair. Your hair is your glory…. learn to enjoy that beautiful part of your femininity! ๐Ÿ™‚

“But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given her for a covering.” 1 Corinthians 11:15

Final Thoughts

Yes, God looks on the heart… but that doesn’t erase the fact that the world is looking on the outside. Is your external appearance healthy, radiant, and beautiful in a meek and quiet way? Or, do you neglect the outside thinking it’s too vain?

God cares the most about what’s in your heart, that inner radiance. But He also desires to have young women representing Him that are caring for, and properly adorning what He has already given them.

This was not my typical blog post… but what are your thoughts? How do you feel about beauty, makeup, skin care… the whole shebang?

Share your thoughts in the comments! I love getting your feedback! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Such a great post, Rebekah!! I would love to see more of these posts! I agree with most everything in this post, except maybe the make up… I really don’t know what to think of make up yet ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have an issue when I see young girls clad in make up, and I know that it also disgusts my (godly) older brothers. I have also heard other men make comments about how unnecessary they think make up is on young ladies. I personally do not wear make up because of my parents’ opinions, but sometime, perhaps when I’m a little older, I would like to try a little bit of make up out (when my parents give me the go-ahead). I know some girls who use make up terribly or before they should (I don’t think that 9 year old girls should wear make up; just saying…), but I also know some young ladies who really use it well. I DO think, however, that it should only be used to enhance your features (unless you’re just playing around with it and trying different looks, and then wiping it off before people see you). So anyway… it’s nice to hear another Christian perspective on make up! I’m just not completely sure what my own personal convictions are yet ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I am still young and my family has made it very clear that I do not need make up right now. So I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Overall though, thank you for sharing your thoughts on beauty. Please do more posts like these! ๐Ÿ™‚ They are very helpful to have in a world where there is such a distorted view of outward beauty. Thank you!!

    1. Hey Grace, that’s totally okay. Makeup is definitely a personal issue and there are so many varying opinions and convictions concerning it. I was not allowed to wear makeup until I was 16 – and then only in small amounts to start. I definitely agree that many people over use makeup. I personally use it to even out my skin tone, conceal my occasional acne, and also to “open up” my eyes with mascara, liner, and for special occasions, eye shadow.
I am so thankful to hear that you are willing to submit to (and honor) your parents wishes. As young women we should honor our parents wishes regarding matters like this – and then one day as wives, our husbands will be the ones who should have the biggest influence in our makeup and beauty decisions ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Awesome post, Rebekah! ๐Ÿ™‚
I am so bad at drinking enough water. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I need to work on that!

As for exercise, I totally agree with you there! I feel so much better when I am in shape! Lately I have been playing racquetball with my parents, which is absolutely amazing exercise. It’s SOOOO fun though–it almost feels like I’m having too much fun to be burning that many calories!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my body since I started that.

Ditto on the makeup thoughts as well! I like playing around with different makeup looks, but am careful that I am not conforming to fads or going overboard. I think a good standard for makeup is that you should NEVER look like a different person when it comes off!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for another great post! โค

    P. S. I didn’t know you were engaged!!!? That’s so exciting, congratulations!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hey Mykaela,
Me too! Thanks for reminding me that need to get a drink of water – right now! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I am so glad you are having fun getting exercise PLUS enjoying time with your parents – that’s awesome! Keep it up! ๐Ÿ™‚
That is such a good thought- girls shouldn’t look like a totally different person when their makeup comes off!
P.S. Yup! I got engaged in February – I mentioned it in my March goals blog post! โ™ฅ

  3. What an awesome post! I have never thought about caring for myself in that way. I am most definitely trying to learn to wear my hair down but so much of the time my long hair is a hassle and easy to throw in a pony tail then I don’t have to put it up before practice. I thought your makeup tips were spot on. I am one of 2 in my class at school that don’t wear makeup. Some go overboard and it aggravates me because they are gorgeous without it.

    1. Yes… long hair can be a hassle at times! I know the struggle – it’s real ๐Ÿ™‚ But it’s so worth it too!

  4. This was such a fun post! I think as Christian girls we have to learn to find the balance between the two extremes you mentioned. I love what you said in the final thoughts: God cares the most about whatโ€™s in your heart, that inner radiance. But He also desires to have young women representing Him that are caring for, and properly adorning what He has already given them.
Thanks for all the great tips + I’m looking forward to trying out some of the products you mentioned!

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed this post – thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I hope you like some of the products if you decide to give them a try! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I think this post was a good idea, and I agreed with everything you said! You definitely see one of two extremes, and I don’t think it should be that way. I enjoy getting “fixed up”, but I never want to try to make myself look different than I am, so everything is just to enhance what God already gave me! Also, I think a lot of this has to do with modesty. Because modesty is all about not drawing attention to myself, which doing crazy things with your hair and makeup is kind of drawing attention to yourself! lol Like, if I decide to dye my hair pink, I’m going to be making a pretty loud statement everywhere I go, and it would definitely be a distraction lol! And really, our job is to reflect Christ, and it would be kind of hard to do that if everyone is distracted by *us* and how we look, whether that’s extravagant or frumpy ๐Ÿ˜‰ And for a future post like this, I think something about etiquette would be awesome! So many girls don’t understand proper etiquette anymore, but it’s so important that we have a social etiquette, and to be considerate of those around us ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! And goodness…pink hair would definitely be an attention grabber haha! ๐Ÿ™‚ I seriously am not a fan of that trend (obviously!). I”m so glad you suggested a blog post on etiquette. I have actually been thinking about that already. My fiance’ lent me two books on etiquette, one for men and one for women (both from a very conservative Christian perspective). They are really great and have given me some ideas. Thanks for mentioning it! ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. And no worries, I’m not thinking about getting pink hair or anything! Haha! It’s my favorite color and all, but I think I’ll keep some boundaries lol!

  6. I enjoyed reading your tips. I’m anxious to try the Norwex cloth and oil on my face. I’m soooo dry and sensitive and always trying to find the best products for my skin. I’m a pretty plain no frills kinda gal, so I don’t do much with make up or anything fancy with my hair. But it is important to still take care of our bodies and represent Christ well. Have you tried any natural hair products? I’m trying to go as natural as possible but struggle with dry hair. I have a hard time keeping it long and healthy and am always looking for new tips. I never use heat, so I’m just naturally very dry. Thanks!

    1. The Norwex cloth has been amazing – I highly recommend it!!
For all natural hair products… I use Renpure for shampoo (not super all natural but much better than most) and I love using pure argan oil in my hair. Olive oil would be a cheaper alternative that’s almost just as good โ˜บ๏ธ

  7. I thought this was a great post. It’s always good to see a Christians point of view on different beauty things. God doesn’t go wrong when he created me, so why try to hide it or change it. The world forgets that. It’s fun to be able to show off what God has given you, maybe doing a little something to enhance that. 1 Cor 6:19-20

  8. Thank you for this post a great reminder. I only wear homemade lipstick that is very subtle and not super noticeable. But the worldly trends are the man reason I hate makeup.
Thanks for linking the video about curling your hair, (and for the music warning ;D :D!!!)

  9. This is a wonderful post Rebekah. I hope that many christian women and men will read this and be encouraged as I have been today. Actually the Bible has talked about the outward beauty too .
Esther 2:9 ” The girl pleased him and won his favor. Immediately he provided her with her beauty treatments and special food.”
Esther 2:12 ” Before a girl’s turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with perfume and cosmetics. ”
    God bless you.

  10. Hi there,

One of the top mistakes hairdressers make is badly balancing trends. However, when it comes to the summer, getting ahead of the game before a summer hairstyle becomes too popular is key.

While working in a hairdresser as a teenager, I fell in love with the almost limitless potential of
shaping and styling hair. Every unique individual has a style which suits their style and
personality, and as a hairdresser, I love working to find that. However, Iโ€™ve also been a student
of style – whatโ€™s hot, and better yet, whatโ€™s about to be hot.

I came across https://moreradiance.com/basic-beauty-tips-christian-young-women/ while researching a different topic and couldnโ€™t help but
feel your readers might be interested in my article idea on getting ahead of the game when it
    comes to summer hairstyles.

Iโ€™d love to contribute a full article on this topic because your readers will be certain to find
these summer tips for hairdressers both intriguing and useful. I would be happy to do this in
return for including a mention of a previous piece Iโ€™d worked on.

Please let me know what you think, Iโ€™d be happy to get started right away.

    Best Regards,
    Jennifer

  11. This was amazing! You clearly are inspired by God. On the subject of makeup, I personally use makeup to make a statement. Not in an attention seeking way, but to let the world know that I am not afraid to be who I really am.(I donโ€™t wear makeup that much.) I do the same thing with my clothing. I am very interested in fashion, and my general everyday outfit is what a lot of people think is a little much, but I really am just using clothing as a form of self-expression. I do think that our if we focus on our inner beauty first, our outer beauty is more achievable!

  12. Recently I was asked a little too lovingly about having Christian beauty tips sferred to muslim girls. Thanks for the tips
